Manifesting the biggest winter in Verbier

There is actually a little more behind this than blind optimism. There are all sorts of interesting things happening with El Niño and the wider global weather patterns this year, but trying to turn what is happening thousands of kilometres away in the Pacific into a prediction of how much snow will fall in Verbier is another matter entirely. Every autumn we get long-range forecasts, weather models and confident predictions about the winter ahead, followed inevitably by someone locally explaining that the berries are particularly plentiful this year, the marmots have gone to bed early or some other ancient Alpine indicator means we are definitely getting metres of snow. The truth, as usual, is that nobody really knows.
So I am ignoring the predictions and going with the skis. They have been ordered, they are coming, and I have made my intentions perfectly clear. Somewhere out there the universe now knows that I require regular overnight snowfalls followed by cold bluebird mornings, preferably beginning sometime around early December and continuing until April. Whether manifestation actually works remains to be seen, but if Verbier gets absolutely buried this winter I shall naturally be taking full credit. If it does, and you fancy finding some of the good stuff rather than following the sheep around the obvious places, you know where to find me. And if it doesn’t, I will at least have a very nice pair of skis.
